Hold Still

A living surface that stays in order only while you keep moving. Stop, and it slowly unravels.

What this is

An interactive artwork, not a game with a score. Under the hood it runs a real reaction-diffusion simulation (a Gray–Scott system) on your graphics chip. It is an artistic toy, not a scientific model of anything.

How to play

Move your mouse or drag a finger to grow calm structure. Keep still and random disorder seeds itself and spreads. Keyboard: arrow keys move an invisible cursor. Use Pause to freeze it.

A question to carry

Are you moving because you want to, or because you fear what happens when you stop? There is no right answer, and no score.

Good to know

No sound. Patterns move continuously, with no flashing. Nothing is collected or sent anywhere. Created by Sahil Tayal.
